Thus Naomi returned. And Ruth the Moabite, her daughter-in-law, returned with her from the territory of Moab. They arrived in Bethlehem at the beginning of the barley harvest.” – Ruth 1:22 CEB
The first chapter of Ruth tells us of how Ruth became the daughter-in-law of Naomi, and after their husbands die, Naomi returns to her old hometown, Bethlehem, and Ruth insists on going with her.
Bethlehem, a well known town in the bible, aka the City of David, becasue it’s where King David will be from, and it’s also where Jesus will be born. Before all of that though, it’s simply the Breadville. “Beth” means “town” and “Lehem” means bread in Hebrew = Breadville.
The basic need for Naomi and Ruth will be housing and food. Relatives of Naomi could hopefully provide shelter, and the town itself would have been able to provide bread.
When they arrive back in Bethlehem, it’s no coincidence it’s harvest season. That’s foreshadowing of what Naomi and Ruth hoped for, that God will provide.
Like Naomi and Ruth, where do you need God to provide in your life?
Like the people of Bethlehem, where can God use youbtodaybro provide for others?
Prayer: Lord, gives us this day our daily bread, and use us as bread to feed the world. Amen.
