But I say to you who are willing to hear: Love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who mistreat you.
– Luke 6:27-28 CEB
What if I don’t want to be like Jesus? What if I have a hard time accepting what Jesus taught and applying it to my life? Who loves their enemies? Be good to those who hate me??? Jesus, you can’t be serious about that right?
Except…when we look at that life of Jesus and the way he lived, I think it reveals a lot about God’s character. And so…I think Jesus was serious about loving our enemies and blessing those who curse us.
It’s simple, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. Who is it hard for you to forgive? Work on it. I will too. It won’t be easy, but it is the way of love and mercy, the way of the Lord, that we are called to live.
Prayer: Lord, some folks hate me, and I want to hate them back, instead teach me how to love those who hate me, and to bless those who would curse me. Help me forgive even my worst of enemies because I can’t do it without your help. Amen.
