Psalm 116: 1-2 (CEB)

116 I love the Lord because he hears
    my requests for mercy.
I’ll call out to him as long as I live,
because he listens closely to me.

Do you ever wonder, “Is God listening to my prayers?  Who am I, that if there is a God, a God that is powerful enough to create everything, who am I that God would take time to listen to me.  Know this, you are not alone.  I think most people of faith wonder that from time to time.  We just want some assurance that all of our crying out, all of our prayers, are not in vain.  Here’s the catch, I believe in the power of prayer, I believe that God is listening, it’s just almost impossible to measure, qualify, or quantify.

Here’s what I do know.  God loves you.  Jesus is the proof.  And what do you do for those you love?  You listen to them.  I may never fully understand how or why, but I do believe God loves us and listens to us.  I also believe that because of love, God is merciful and compassionate, they are two essential characteristics of love, and God is love (1 John 4:8)  Love is the defining characteristic of God, and love listens.  It’s what love does.

So, even though it may not feel like God is listening, know this, God is listening.  So pray.

Pray hard, pray often, and know that your prayers are not in vain.  God is listening and loving.

Prayer:  Thank you Lord for listening to me. I know you’re listening because you love me.  I may not know why you still care or still love me, but I know you do, and for that, I am eternally grateful.  It’s good to be heard, some times that’s all I need.  May I listen to you as well.  Amen.
