I tell my children I love them every day, multiple times a day. I hope they never have a day where the don’t know that their daddy loves them.
If you have/had halfway decent parentals, you know that nobody loves you like your mom and dad. The older you grow the more you know the depth and breadth of their love for you.
Here’s the thing,, the Lord loves you more than that. Even if you did something so egregious that your parents abandoned you, God would not.
We don’t know much about King David’s mom, but we do know he had a good dad, and yet he penned these words in a time of need.
Even if my father and mother left me all alone, the Lord would take me in. (Psalms 27:10 CEB)
Or as Paul writes in Romans:
I’m convinced that nothing can separate us from God’s love in Christ Jesus our Lord: not death or life, not angels or rulers, not present things or future things, not powers or height or depth, or any other thing that is created. (Romans 8:38-39 CEB)
Think of the person(s) who have loved you most in this life. Now, try to comprehend that Lord of All Creation, The Creator of the Stars, the Almighty, loves you. And not just a little, but deeper than you will ever fully comprehend.
Know that you are loved. Let that soak into your heart and soul.
And you didn’t earn it, because you can’t earn love. And you never lose it, well, because it’s not yours to lose, it’s God’s to give. And the promise is that God’s going to love you forever. Forever and ever. Amen.
Prayer. Lord, I will never understand the fullness or depth of your love for me, but I know that you do, and that is enough. Thank you for loving me when I am less than you hoped for me to be, when I make bad choices, when I do stupid things, and when I just don’t feel like I’m good enough or even like myself. My soul soaks in your eternal love today. Amen.
