Faith pass it on

What are you sharing with the world?  Seriously.  What’s your contribution?  What mark will you leave on the world after you’ve entered the heavenly ever after?  I hope I’ve loved well and deeply, and taught others to do the same.  I hope I have enjoyed life, but I more importantly, I hope I have made the lives of others better.  I hope I have handed on God’s love to my family, friends, and others.

I want to share my God’s love with everyone, but I can’t.  The world has too many people for you and me to do that by ourselves.  However, if I can share what I know about being a follower of Jesus, with even a handful of other folks, they can pass it on, the reach of God’s love will grow exponentially.  This is how discipleship works.  It’s the Great Commission, Jesus command to make disciples.  (Matthew 20 19-20)

In Acts, Paul and Barnabas are making disciples, planting churches, and moving on, but not before they have made disciples who will make disciples.  Part of our God-given calling is to mentor others in the Way.  Like a runner in a relay handing off the baton, we pass the faith to others who will run with it, but we must teach them and train them how to run too!

21 Paul and Barnabas proclaimed the good news to the people in Derbe and made many disciples. Then they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch, where 22 they strengthened the disciples and urged them to remain firm in the faith. They told them, “If we are to enter God’s kingdom, we must pass through many troubles.” 23 They appointed elders for each church. With prayer and fasting, they committed these elders to the Lord, in whom they had placed their trust. – Acts 14:21-23 (CEB)

As pastor Perry Noble puts it, “Found people find people.”  Some one shared their faith with you.  Who will you share your faith with today.  The message of God’s love and salvation needs to be heard and lived.

Take a minute and thank God for the people who have mentored you and shaped your faith.  (Parents, grandparents, teachers, pastors, sunday school teachers, accountants, whoever…)

Take a minute and consider who God has put in your life that you can begin to teach and mentor about life as a disciple.

Prayer:  Lord, thank you for the people you have put in my life that have shown me how to live and follow you.  Give me the wisdom and courage to lead others in your Way.
